Music floods his veins
taking his calm eyes by storm
pulsing violently beneath the surface of his skin

I dare not touch him
I dare not even touch him
for fear that that electric force will rip through my own body
for a split second leaving me static
unable to move
before hurdling me into the unknown

But the very air around him crackles and
hums dangerously with energy
a swarm of bees

And his fingertips brush against mine
a light touch
deliberate or inadvertent, I know not.
And I'm paralyzed
I cannot pull away—

His fingertips brush against mine,
hesitantly strum, as over uncertain guitar strings
in tune with nothing but themselves.
I want to hold on, cling on
I want to let go—

His fingertips brush against mine
And a wild and reckless power surges through me,
heaving the air from my lungs
and replacing it with infinite music
An Infinite and Unrelenting Music
Just a little poem I came up with on the spur of the moment last week and polished off more a few days ago. I'm hoping to submit this to a poetry workshop class I'm taking this semester, and I would absolutely love to get some feedback and your critique on it if you would be so kind as to comment!

I know, I know. I haven't submitted anything in ages. Pretty pleased with this, though.

Well, I've just written the prologue to a new story that I've been thinking about for a few months. Just recently I've begun to stitch some of the pieces together into something actually tangible. Before it was just vague and couldn't really go anywhere. I've been throwing out less-than-original ideas for it (a bit painfully, as it's harder to part with them than one might think) and replacing them with somewhat improved ideas.

Actually, I'd had two different futuristic/science fiction story ideas that I've decided to put together for this story. It might be a bit difficult, though, because the main character from each is now a single character and I'm still not sure just how I want her to be.

Also, it's too much like The Hunger Games for my liking, despite a few twists. I'm trying to fix that, but I feel as though it will be pretty apparent anyway.

I'm (finally!) starting driver's ed classes this Monday, so I won't be on often for the next three weeks. Which is good, because it minimizes my posting. One of my biggest dA pet peeves is when deviants post their chapters so often that you can't even keep up with them, and then you just stop reading it because it's so poorly/sloppily written that you can't stand it. Probably being a total hypocrite there, but maybe that's why it bothers me so much. XD

Also, if anyone can recommend some good science fiction novels? I really love the genre, but I haven't read many of the classics.

Last year I read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (awesome book--admittedly my own All the Shades of Scarlet is too much like it--that's why I'm going to rewrite it.)

...And a few months ago (before civics class and finals started to take their toll) I read part of Ray Bradbury's The Illustrated Man (also fascinating--especially "The Veldt," which I was required to read for my creative writing class.) and I was meaning to check out his other works (particularly Fahrenheit 451) when I heard that he died. :( He's probably on track to my list of favorite authors--too bad I'll never meet him.

One of the other books on my list is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which I am particularly excited to read. :)

Again, recommendations?? Also for historical fiction.

Sorry for the lengthy journal. XD
